One of the most important goal of life is to make the most of our time before it is too late.
When you find yourself running out of time, you will sacrifice almost anything to get more.
In the process, we will not have "more time", only less time for other things in life.
The result is neglect, regret, frustration, tiredness and more.
Remember, another important goal of life is to be happy.
We have to balance our time, maximize it to do things (or more) that make us happy and your loved ones happy.
In my current work environment, I see many chasing after work deadlines, rushing for appointments, skipping meals, working on weekends, falling sick, etc. I constantly remind myself that work is primarily to feed our body only (even if you love your job). We must take care of our mind and soul.
I begin to realise that I do not wish to work in any big, famous organisation in the future. The bigger the organisation, the more expectations there are to meet, hence the increased stress and pressure. Much time is often wasted in decision making as there are many layers in the hierarchy to pass through.
I work best in a small or mid size (less than 300-500) company. I value down-to-earth people and organisations. It is indeed a rarity in this era, but they still exist. If necessary, I do not mind a pay cut to work in a junior position, as long as the job is meaningful and the environment condusive. Actually, I am already earning much less than my friends and peers. Sounds drastic?
Not really. I rather spend less time working, and spend more time on life. Almost 1/3 of our lives are spent studying and working. That is alot. I want to make the most of it. I don't mind earning more time, and earning less money.
